Your Move: How to Play Chess on Facebook Messenger
Talking with your friends on Facebook is and so passé. If you really want to have your interactions to the side by side level, challenge them to a game of chess, which is now possible through Facebook Messenger, thank you to some creative hacking.
To get-go, drop the post-obit line into whatever conversation: "@fbchess play." From there, you'll have to get yourself familiar with the typical chess notation for moving pieces; that's how you'll tell Facebook that you desire to, say, move your pawn to space E4 on the board (by typing in @fbchess Pe4, in that instance).
That's it, though. If you're having a little trouble playing the game or deciphering the commands, type @fbchess help into your conversation window and Facebook volition come to your aid. (You exercise have to use unlike commands when you're taking a piece or attempting to promote a pawn—should you be good plenty to do so.)
You lot can also send a few other commands to @fbchess. If you're getting demolished, just add "resign" to your bulletin to tip over your virtual rex. If y'all're curious how y'all've been doing, "stats" gives you a little rundown of your chess-capades so far. You can likewise pick what colour you want when you outset playing if you're the person who summons the game—remember, white plays first.
As Lifehacker notes, you can also click on the chat menu settings icon and select the option to "See Full Chat" if you want to play on a larger chess board.
Though this is probably just a piffling Easter egg that some artistic Facebook programmer built into Messenger with some free time, it sure would exist fun if Facebook could dump in other text-driven board games for people to play. Rolling some Dungeons & Dragons die would be a pretty like shooting fish in a barrel command.
